Anyone who knows me, knows that I never schnorr for anyone but I am momish a ben bayis by this family (as is half of Yerushalayim and anyone visiting) and if ANYONE deserves Maaser money and community support it is them. They do tremendous chessed and would NEVER ask for help unless they really needed it. There is no official "hachonnos orchim center" in Yerushalayim, this family is as close as it gets. They literally have hundreds of guests every Shabbos, and their house, car, and everything else they own is open to all those in need the entire week. I have personally received more from this family than I could ever pay back in 10 lifetimes, so if you have any money or know of anyone who does, please help out. I know several other members of this forum can also vouch for them and confirm the importance and widespread effect of the work they do on a daily basis. Besides, you can win 10 big ones by doing a huge mitzvah....

Yeah, it was supposed to be last week but it got delayed so I don't know if they had the drawing yet......

What annoys the heck outta me is that seminary girls (who have a thousand other places to eat for shabbas) insist on going because 'everyone else is' and they want to see it for themselves. Okay, I understand the Machlis' are there for everyone..but isn't it a bit rude to just go when there are so many people that could really use the meal??

(I'm venting as a result of first -hand info from many sem girls who've told me this..and even slept at my house so they could eat at the M's.. )

Hey! I'm one of those sem girls.

I didn't go because everyone else was doing it or so that I could gawk. I went because I heard that it's something special -- and it was. Plus, my family knew the Machlises when they lived in America, so I felt like I had a connection.

It's definitely not you I'm referring to and this has happened in the past few months. Unless you're the type of sem girl who..nm. The way I picture you and the girls I know who went..um..don't jive.

His meals aren't for people who "need them". It is not a soup kitchen or outreach center (although it DOES both). It is hachonossas orchim and he WANTS ALL kinds of people there, including Sem girls.... And it's not like they're taking food out of anyone else's mouth or taking there spot.... I happen to know for a fact that they LIKE when Sem Girls come....

It is the ISRAELIS that come, have their own little clique, don't pay attention, participate and make constant noise, stuff their faces and then get up and leave that disturb ME.....

To me..when I see (and understand) the need for $ to be raised for them..yes- the sem girls taking food out of someone else's mouth and a spot at the table. Just my feeling on the matter.

But the "Sem Girls" are part and parcel of what he is doing and an integral part of the "atmosphere" and general feeling.....
