We make a Brachah on pretty much everything we derive pleasure from (Birkas Ha'nehenin), so why does this not go into the category of "Kol ha'neheneh min olam hazeh b'lo brachah k'eelu neheneh may'kodshei shomayim?

The simple answer is that Chazal wasn't gozer on smoking. Does one make a bracha for music he enjoys? There are other examples of things we are neh'hne from that we don't make a birkas ha'nehenin on.

Is there substance in a Brachah on something you smell?

It's still assur though.

edit: sorry, I misunderstood your post.

What about soothing medication or a salve? There is definitely ha'anah, it definitely goes "into" your body and no bracha.

You don't make a Brachah on medication.

In spite of the fact that it's called "birchat ha-nehenin", we don't make a berachah on every joy and pleasure - just food and fragrance (fragrance is a special case. it's food for the soul) - which is why I don't make a berachah every time I log in to hashkafah.com.

I'm sorry I forgot that there can be a Machlokes Ha'poskim,

R' Moshe= not Asur

Cynic=Asur

And mistameh since your more recent "Halach K'basroei".

I think I get the picture.

R' Moshe declined to write that it is assur. He certaintly didn't say that it is permitted.

Bubbelah zeiskeit, you tell me one person who says smoking is muttar today.
It is 100% assur. Assur gamur. It is not up for discussion or argument.
Anybody who smokes today is wrong. I'm sure you're going to quote me a psak that smoking is actually a chiyuv on Yom Tov because it's an oneg, right?

Also, even though it's passed, but I also remember reading how smoking is actually chametz as well. Yet of course you still see people smoking on Pesach, but that's off-topic.
