Fine. A profession that requires higher education schooling where the practitioners can have a reasonable expectation of income generation that would support a frum lifestyle on its own for a family of 6 children. How's that? Other than paying full tuition, what are other mandatory expenses to live a frum lifestyle for a family of 6? |

So, what do you have in mind when you say "a frum lifestyle"? Tuition is obviously the big one. Shul dues, clothing, rent, transportation, insurance, health care, etc etc etc. What it takes to run a family in a typical orthodox community. Sure, if you want to go live in a forest and eat berries, great, but you know that's not what I'm talking about. Look, I am paying 53k in tuition this year. That simply can't be done on a 70k teacher's salary, even with both spouses as teachers. |

A lot of Tier 1 Professions require paying off student loans. Factor that into the equation...
Thank you for hijacking the thread. This is very individual. Depending on location, and type of accountant, it might not fall into Tier 1.

In my experience, its not even close in my just over a decade in this field. Typically its just over half that. For one with some experience to boot. Torah Umesorah's guideline suggsts a 60k plus full benefits for an experienced rebbie. I dont even know what they suggest for an experienced teacher. Even with these guidelines, most dayschools in America struggle to even remotely come close. -------------------- "What we do in life, echos in eternity"

Even with these guidelines, most dayschools in America struggle to even remotely come close. The teachers in my kids' elementary school are on basically the same pay scale as public school teachers. In high school, a teacher could make 90k. [This is all in Canadian dollars, and in Canada where costs and salaries are somewhat different]. This is a coed MO school. I have no idea about pay scales in the more right wing schools and yeshivot. For comparison, tuition is, I think, 12k per kid in the upper grades [4-8], 17k in high school, if that provides a frame of reference. If teacher salaries are really lower, then that just demonstrates my point further. |

Everyone bashes the yeshivish world for not going out there and getting proper jobs that can pay decent amounts of money so they won't have to take from the klal. But when I ask for suggestions on how to make that kind of money, there's silence.
So I repeat, what are tier one professions? What are even tier two professions? Right now I'm probably in tier five. |

"Tier One Professions", The Composer's Definition:

Right now I'm probably in tier five. 4+ years of education: tier one 2+ years: tier two Any education past high school: tier three Only HS diploma/GED: tier four Elementary school graduation: tier five No schooling whatsoever: tier six No education whatsoever: tier seven How's that? -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."
