Something potentially long-lasting, somewhat practical, and meaningful. To mark an occasion. Any ideas?

A dictionary. There is perhaps no gift more full of meaning.

Who's it for?

A coworker? A parent? A friend?

Female? Male?

A fancy desk-top clock.

A nice pen set.

A watch.

An oversized jar of jellybeans.

Gift certificate in Sharper Image or the likes. There's ALWAYS stuff I would like to get there.

I'd rather not give a gift card. I think they're tacky and a good way of saying "I couldn't think of anything to get for you."

Nice ideas so far, thanks all. Any others?

Jewelry works well.

That's a bit over my budget, I think...

You can shop around. I've found nice stuff.

Or, you could get a nice jewelry box.

Depending on what type of stuff she likes and if you know what she does/doesn't like, I'd check out brookstone.com or sharperimage.com or hammacherschlemmer.com. They all have cool unusual stuff that are USEFUL.

I think someone's already mentioned this website on h.com before.

I wish I could remember who it was so I could give proper credit.

I think that www.redenvelope.com has a great selection of gifts in a variety of price ranges, including some beautiful jewelry in your price range.

I'll look through that, too. Thanks. But I'm not looking for jewelry.

I like the idea of "by the month" gifts. Maybe this or this.
