I am in my very early 60's coming to Israel with my wife
Our objectives on this trip are to figure out where to move to when making Aliyah and to explore any income possibilities We are a Charedi balabatish family Agudah type with Chasidisha leanings I learned in Torah Vodaath in Williamsburg and see the Belzer Rebbe when I can I daven in an Agudah now, but enjoy a shtibil enviornment We would like to live in the general Yerushalyim area but not in the heart of town The prices there prohibitively high We have relatives in Har Nof and have had suggestions of Bet Shemesh and Telz Stone but we would like to consider other areas It would be nice if there were; some Anglos some people our age ( in searching we came across Tel Zion but we wonder if there is anything there for us) the possibility of still earning a few Shekel ( I would consider beginning to work for a company that needs representation in the American Midwest and to continue working for them when we make Aliyah My wife comments that I may be painting ourselves too far to the right. So, let me point out that we have YU friends, Gush fiends etc Any information and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated We arrive February 11th |

We bought in 1989 in Shaarei Chessed but as you say that has become prohibitive now; nice for us though! -------------------- "Mommy, is this the house where we are allowed to swing on the chairs, or the house where we're not allowed to swing on the chairs?"

Tel Tzion is a bad idea IMHO, not your demographic at all.
Maybe Beitar (although I'm also not sure) Ramat Beit Shemesh Telz Stone is definitely a possibility but it is out in the middle of nowhere. What about an outlying area of J'lem like Neve Yaakov or Ramot?? -------------------- [/flirting]

Neve Jake has lots of Anglos in the - 50 -60's area, but it could get boring, there isnt much going on - i lived there for 2 years - check out ramat beit shemesh Baka is worth looking into, you have there roads listed Reuven, Shimon, etc. (off derech shechem). There is a chassidish yeshivah in the area (where they also have chutznik yom tov sheni tefillos) and the area has lots of Anglos of all ages and religious levels. May be out of your price range though. Check out http://www.nbn.org.il/social/community/com...y_jerusalem.htm |

Baka is not an area that comes to mind for someone chareidi... and it is far from cheap!

I am in my very early 60's coming to Israel with my wife Our objectives on this trip are to figure out where to move to when making Aliyah and to explore any income possibilities First of all welcome to h.com. My first reaction would be to recommend Rechavia, but it's very expensive. There are several areas in Jerusalem that you might like, including Bayit Vegan, Har Nof and Givat Shaul, but I have no idea what property prices are like there. I tried looking at the community profiles on the Nefesh BeNefesh site, and they do mention the community of Hashmonaim which, according to them has a 40% Anglo population, although it's a Religious Zionist community. With regards to starting a business or finding employment, I think Nefesh B'Nefesh has a department for employment assistance. I wish I could offer more concrete help... Anyway, I wish you all the best. |
