Four men are on a deserted island.
Two are armless. One is a Nazir. The fourth one dies. Is the Nazir allowed to bury him if the two armless men warn him that he's not allowed to become tameh? -------------------- "I dare because I am Brianna, you twit." - Nubie Goddess

The difference is the route ..." -shaya_getzl "If only life had an "edit" feature." - mosheshmeal "Would you like a logical fallacy with your meal of unsupported assertion?" - yadfothgildloc "Forgive me, I thought there was a debate going on. He's not only allowed to, he chayiv too! Classic "esseh docheh lo sa’aseh." No? -------------------- There are a number of ideas that literally form the backbone of Judaism. Without knowledge of these ideas, it is virtually impossible to know how Judaism came to be as it is today, or how it functions. Unfortunately, however, the more important the idea, the less the average person knows about it. - Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, Handbook of Jewish Thought

ETA: But not by "Esse docheh lo sa'seh", cause if they had arms, he wouldn't be allowed to. -------------------- "I dare because I am Brianna, you twit." - Nubie Goddess

Yar... I see I posted too fast; just got to the Mishna that says "Doch, ist ah hutruh miclalan" Case solved. ETA: But not by "Esse docheh lo sa'seh", cause if they had arms, he wouldn't be allowed to. Right. -------------------- There are a number of ideas that literally form the backbone of Judaism. Why couldnt the armless men bury him with their feet. 9 -------------------- "Eat. Spit. Be Happy." -Davids

It's not proper Kavanah. I just thought of something slightly unrelated: Are armless men disqualified from being edim? -------------------- "I dare because I am Brianna, you twit." - Nubie Goddess

He's not only allowed to, he chayiv too! Classic "esseh docheh lo sa’aseh." No? What is this principle? Why doesn't it apply to, let's say, lulav on Shabbos Sukkos? Or shofar on Shabbos RH? -------------------- |

What is this principle? Why doesn't it apply to, let's say, lulav on Shabbos Sukkos? Or shofar on Shabbos RH? Because the issur of shaking lulav and blowing shofar isn't the actual shaking or blowing, rather it's the carrying the lulav or shofar (as in "you may forget and carry it to shul"). So even though when you shake or blow you do a mitzva, to get to the mitzvah you have to do an issur. Whereas here the same action is a mitzva and an averah. What do you mean? Whos kavana?Whats not proper about it? Kavanah to the dead. I wouldn't want my corpse to be handled with people's feet... Why should they be? I dunno... lefties can't serve in the temple and suchstuff. I don't make the rules... -------------------- "I dare because I am Brianna, you twit." - Nubie Goddess

And example where it applies is say like doing a bris on Shabbos. Or in ancient times doing Yibam. -------------------- There are a number of ideas that literally form the backbone of Judaism.
