Do you think there's an age range at which women should start cutting their hair (or shaitel) a little shorter? Is there a point when long hair becomes silly and youthful? What about ponytails? What about band falls?

i was just thinking about this the other day when a women walked by and she had loooong white hair. it wasn't whisp-y or thin, just long and white (usually it starts thinning or getting split ends, but this woman didn't have that). it looked weird.

I see someone sometimes who has grayish/silverish hair and wears it up in a fashionable bun. I think it looks great. The woman you saw probably doesn't dye it or overstyle it, and thus it maintains its healthy appearance. But yes, loooong worn down seems weird.

I think it's gonna depend. However, in general, we go shorter as we get older.

Exist's friend's song, to the tune of The Star Spangled Banner

Let's say you can see,
A hot and cold sink,
Where so proudly, we wash,
For netilas yadayim
Whose filtered waters and bright shine,
Through this mitzva'dig time,
O'er our hands, we watch,
Gallons of water streaming.
And the hot water from here, gets filled with cold water down there,
So don't turn on the hot water, or more will be boiled somewhere.
Oh say does that negel vasser towel yet dry,
Our cold and wet hands, and now we know the reason why!

I think everyone should wear their hair/shaitel the way they like, no matter how old they are.

I happen to love seeing long, silver or white hair on an older woman, especially grandmotherly types. There's just something comforting and sage about it.

Long hair in a braid looks good on a lot of older women - very earth motherish.

I'm not crazy on older women (like me) wearing the same long straight sheitel as the young ones. It just doesn't look right. And bands/falls just accentuate the older face, so not a good look.

I have no idea what you look like, so don't take this personally, but many an older woman could do with more 'hair' around their faces, chins, jowls.

Ha.

I really think it depends on the woman.
Some older woman pull off longer hair some younger woman don't.

I agree; I don't like the very short sheitel look on older women. Only women, (young and older) with pixie faces can carry that look off. But there's a difference between short, and the shoulder length (and beyond) sheitels that young women wear.

I wear mine just below jaw length which is flattering to older faces/chins but doesn't look like mutton dressed as lamb either.

I don't like long hair/shaitels on older women. I think its like trying to dress young when you just aren't.

Yes and when you are walking behind one of those women in the street and think she a young girl, you get such a shock when you see her face.

(Not mine of course, which remains youthful and unlined... tongue.gif)

I have always looked after my skin even before it was deemed as necessary. I have regular facials and my beautician says women 20 yrs younger would envy the elasticity of my skin, so I am very lucky. Whether this is genetics or not I don't know; my mother didn't have such amazing skin.

As to minimal sun exposure; I used to be a total sun worshipper so that's not true. I don't sunbathe much these days but I used to be out there with upturned face at the first glimpse of the sun.
