What was the worst (or some of the worst) experience/experiences you had with a rebbi/teacher growing up?
(I'm not really talking about poor educators. I'm focused more along the lines of a rebbi who maybe slapped a kid or something to that extent.) |

Ooh, my dad's got the best story!
My dad was about 15 at the time, and his younger brother came to him and complained that his rebbe had slapped him for saying something stupid, so the next day my dad went in and slapped him back. He was kicked out of the yeshiva, but I'm so proud of him -------------------- "נעבוד אותך בזריזות בתמימות ובפשיטות ונשמור על האחדות בקרב חברינו"

At the age of 6:
Our class was given an extra credit to write Modeh Ani etc... without looking into the Siddur. I was the only one that got it correctly and not only didn't she award me, she accused me of having cheated and went as far as punishing me. It wasn't true. I was NOT a cheater. Never was. I'll have to think if I want to share the second story. -------------------- Proud member of the "I don't always wait until I finish reading the thread to respond" club. ~~~~~~~~~~ As for me, I would rather be able to love things I cannot have, than to have things I'm not able to love. .~Merrit Malloy IMPVHO |

In 3rd grade a friend of mine made a face at me from across the room which made me smile and cover my mouth so as not to laugh. Our Rebbi, who had been reading whatever parsha we were learning at the time, immediately stopped reading and asked me what was so funny.
I said, “nothing.” The Rebbi got in my face and said “You know who laughs at nothing? Crazy people! Retarded people! Are you crazy or retarded? Do you belong in the loony bin?” Then he turned to the class and said “Look everyone, Flickster is crazy! We should bring him to the loony bin!” He kept making comments like this until I started crying. At that point, he said “Good. You should be crying. You don’t laugh in class.” He then went back to his seat and continued reading. I really hated that guy. |

My worst was in sixth grade, when i got physically dragged out of class by my ear because the 'rebbi' thought i did something...
and my ninth grade rebbi...amon other things used to walk into class every day (during the 2000 intifada) ad point out specific ids, saying 'because YOU didnt know the gemara well enough is why two kids are in the hospital with no legs as result ofa bomb'.... -------------------- Car accidents and marriage are both funny; when they happen to someone else -Doodlehead

My worst experiences was in high school when the principal told me to stop challenging the teachers because they weren't equipped to answer my questions. That happened to me in 8th grade, which is when I decided to switch to an entirely different HS. -------------------- My cancer is rarer than your cancer.

but isn't it true that no one can answer some (most?) of those. we've had many threads about them and doesn't it all come down to belief? There are alot of answers. You have to know how to approach the question. Saying, "that's not an appropriate question," "Jews don't question," "it's wrong to question," "because Hashem/the Torah said so" etc, is NOT the way to do it. Yes, the last one is the answer to some questions. But not to all. -------------------- My cancer is rarer than your cancer.

Yes, the last one is the answer to some questions. But not to all. you can definitely go the AISH/similar way, but not everyone is ok with those answers either. i think that teh first 3 are not good, but the last one is what it really is, isn't it? why not to all? can you give some examples, please? Ultimately, it really is the answer. i think so, too. if one doesn't believe, he/she'll refute most of the reasons. we've seen it here in threads. when I was a freshman in public school my english teacher told me to go to auschwitz.
