With gas prices having risen so dramatically over the past several months, I was wondering if people had changed their driving behavior in order to conserve gas, and if so, what changes they had made. (Examples: driving less, driving at lower speed, taking public transit more often, carpooling)
Additionally, I was also wondering if you have seen and/or are taking advantage of promotions for free gas from various stores. (Example: This week Shoprite is offering a promotion where if you buy $75 of goods by certain manufacturers you can get a free $25 gas card.) So in addition to how you might be changing driving behavior, I guess feedback on how it might be changing your purchasing behavior with regard to other goods would also be relevant to this discussion. Yes, I am trying very hard to cut back on my speeding. Trying to coast to lights a little more instead of gunning and breaking. I hate to do it, but with the cost of gas...
Also, I am trying to limit my trips into the heart of Pikesville to once a week, twice at the most. -------------------- “The danger of ancient liberty was that men, exclusively concerned with securing their share of social power, might attach too little value to individual rights and enjoyments. The danger of modern liberty is that, absorbed in the enjoyment of our private independence, and in the pursuit of our particular interests, we should surrender our right to share in political power too easily. The holders of authority are only too anxious to encourage us to do so. They are so ready to spare us all sort of troubles, except those of obeying and paying! They will say to us: what, in the end, is the aim of your efforts, the motive of your labours, the object of all your hopes? Is it not happiness? Well, leave this happiness to us and we shall give it to you. No, Sirs, we must not leave it to them. No matter how touching such a tender commitment may be, let us ask the authorities to keep within their limits. Let them confine themselves to being just. We shall assume the responsibility of being happy for ourselves.”

We're crazy. We did the opposite of everyone and just got a second car.
I mainly use it to go to the gym, but still like to carpool whenever possible. The gym was actually the driving force (no pun intended) behind getting another car. I was going to the gym nearly every evening and it drove DH crazy that he hardly ever saw me, so we got a car. I've gotten a lot more comfortable with driving now that I have a car of my own, so that's good. However, it does bother me that we finally got another car when the price of gas is so high. -------------------- "Evereything in moderation (except beer)."

Absolutely. Something like one of these babies My friend's husband was just hit this week while riding his Vespa. I guess the car didn't see him and changed lanes into him. b"H no real injuries but he's in a lot of pain. They call motorcycle riders "organ donors". Are these any safer? -------------------- |

Who's stopping you? My conscience and my "community." The truth is I'd rather get a bike than a scooter. My friend's husband was just hit this week while riding his Vespa. I guess the car didn't see him and changed lanes into him. b"H no real injuries but he's in a lot of pain. They call motorcycle riders "organ donors". Are these any safer? Right, that's another concern. I'd be scared of that little "baby." |
