Have you ever gotten a haircut in Best Cuts as an adult? Were you happy? Do you find that the more you pay for a cut, the happier you are, or there isn't a direct correlation?

There's not necessarily a direct correlation, but generally, places like Great Cuts are a starting point for hairdressers. Once they're better, they're able to move onto fancier salons. You may get lucky and a have a great person cut your hair at Great Cuts, but you'll probably have better luck at a higher-end salon. It's also helpful to bring in a pic of the cut that you want.

I used to get my hair cut (as a kid) in a Best Cuts type place. When I started getting my hair cut in higher-class places, in high school, I was MUCH happier with my hair. IMO, a haircut is not something to scrimp on. A hairstylist in a more expensive place will be, in general, more experienced, more trained, and more willing to help you get the look you want, and not the look they want. That's just IME, though.

Good point.

If only I'd know...

I think it's the opposite. The big hot-shot hairdressers think they know it all and you know nothing, so they'll give you the cut they think will look best. I wouldn't go to one of the hot-shot people though, rather middle-of-the-road.

I don't think that's true. You're the customer, so they should ultimately give you what you want. That said, once you give them an idea of what kind of cut you are looking for they can tailor it to what would look best on you.

That might be fine depending on the stylist. You might want to consider looking for someone whose hair cut you really like and asking them where they get their hair cut. That's how I found one of my hair stylists, and although he was at an expensive salon and far from cheap, getting a great cut was worth every penny.

Yes, and no. A more experienced hairdresser will be able to tell what will look best on you, depending on your hair, and your face. I've never gone to a super-hot shot, (never had my hair cut in NY, LA, or London), or even just a hot shot, since I've pretty much only lived in smaller cities, but I still think a stylist at a higher end salon will have a better eye and feel for what will look best.
