Hi Everyone!

On Thursday morning, July 10, I was at Ben-Gurion airport to
greet the new olim that made aliyah from North America to Israel.

There were 220 olim on the flight including 47 singles and
39 families with 85 children.
The youngest oleh in the group is 2 months old and the oldest oleh
is 87 years old. The flight also included 4 dogs and 2 cats.

I took 286 pictures of the exciting event and I posted them online at:
http://www.jr.co.il/pictures/israel/history/2008/a298.htm

When the first page appears, press the F11 key to view the
full length of the pictures. To move from page to page, use the
navigation buttons on the bottom of the screen.

May the aliyah from all over of the world grow and bring
more Jews back to their homeland, Eretz Yisrael.

Shabbat Shalom!
Jacob

If you watch the video you can actually spot Jacob taking some of these pictures. biggrin.gif

The amazing part is some how I managed to evade Jacob in all these pictures... almost!

seems like a timeshare where you get a free flight but you have to listen to an infomercial.

My dog doesn't lick his own butt. He doesn't eat poop or step in it. I'll concede that he does smell other dogs' butts and he does lick "himself." I'd prefer it if he doesn't lick me right after that, so I employ a few minutes of buffer time between licking other things and me and I try to get him to drink some water too. - VLG

1. I found it interesting how the more yeshivish/chasidish people were all on one bus together.
2. Why was that blonde women in the black sweater and black pants up there on the podium?
3. What was that woman doing on the podium holding up a passport?
4. How long do the speeches go on for?

Because she and her husband donated the money that funded the flight.

Oh. She must be rich (and they look so young!). smile.gif Is she Israeli or American (or other)? How did you know that?

They're American. He gave a really moving speech. You should watch the video!

Yes they seem to be very wealthy and young. You can google his name if you want to know more about him and how he made his fortune. His name is Guma Aguiar and his wife's name is Jamie. They are Americans but it sounds like they might have made aliyah. I watched a bit of the video which is how I heard about them.

1. That could be because they give the larger families more seats in the back of the plane. Or more likely because the larger families had to wait till the strollers come out.

2. Rachel already answered.

3. That wasn't a passport. It was a tudat oleh...a certificate of immigration. The paper that makes her a citizen. She was the 15,000 olah so they presented it to her on stage. All the other olim receive one as well - just not on stage.

4. Too long if you ask me...

I googled him and I have no understanding of what he did to make his money, but it looks impressive. smile.gif I guess he's not only young and wealthy with a beautiful wife after two children and a really cool name, he must be smart too. smile.gif

1. Other people had babies in strollers.

4. How do these people sit through them after sitting on a plane for so long????
