Here is a list of one particular company's line of fake furs. I was wondering which of them the people here think would make nice fake shtreimel:
(from the following vantage points) Funny, non-realistic Cool, but passable Stunningly real (note paying attention to lengths of the fur, from what I understand normal shtreimels have at leas 1 inch long hairs) (also note: the stripes going down the minks are about 3 inches wide) My answers, in order are: 1: I don't know. 2 Maybe the saphire mink (Not sure if I could make it work) 3: not sure, the coco sable is nice but a bit short, and the mohogany mink is again, short and pelted, the brown bare is rather flimsy, and mabye the redish bear one that they have would work? I'm not sure. but I was wondering what the H community thought. -------------------- "well has beruria spoken"

I think it's cheaper for you to kill some animals and make your own... yes it probably is. although I wouldn't have the heart to kill anything. but its always nice to fantasize -------------------- "well has beruria spoken"

Sure. I also saw with my own eyes R. Neventzahl shlita wearing a srugie on purim. Okay. But it seems like a boring costume to me. Because depending on how you're wearing it, people might not even notice it! QUOTE here's making fun of the torah: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v336/mel...nt=DSC00181.jpg I like. I have no reason for my hershesh. I'm sorry I can't explain it. Sure a dr costume or policeman or fireman is okay.

I think it would depend on a number of factors. For example, dressing up with intent to make fun, to parody, let's say with exaggerated features. That could be problematic, where the dresser-upper on purim is doing it to make fun. But I think normally and typically it's just dressing up as something a person clearly is not - like when boys put on a skirt on purim. Now if someone dresses up as a chassid, and his wife dresses up as a chassid with duct tape on her mouth to signify being silenced and disempowered, that's clearly unacceptable. But for a kid to stam put on a streimel, just like kids dress up as kohen gadols, I'm not seeing the problem.
It's like at MO weddings or bar mitzvahs, and some wise guy always puts a black hat on the guy/kid during one of the dances - nobody thinks the guy/kid is mocking chabad, it's just good natured fun. |
