My friend is a Modern Orthodox, married female (24 yrs. old), living in Brooklyn. She claims to have difficulty meeting like-minded people where she lives (Midwood?). Can anyone suggest any kind of group, meetup, tehillim club, etc. that would be appropriate for her? Her husband works nights and she is not yet employed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ohr Naava, everyone has fun there.

Aren't there like 10,000,000 people in Brooklyn? How hard can it be to meet one of the 10 million?

Aren't there like 10,000,000 people in Brooklyn? How hard can it be to meet one of the 10 million? There are about 12 MO people in Brooklyn, 2 of them in Midwood, and they're all hunkered down in their bomb shelters trying to wait out the toxic Slide to the Right bomb. |

Maybe she should start going to a shul that she feels comfortable at and after a while she may start to meet people.
It's taken over a year, but I've started to make good friends at the gym. -------------------- "Evereything in moderation (except beer)."

good idea. also, aren't there shiurim in shuls near her? What shul does her husband daven at? Maybe some of their wives could tell her about it. I'm serious about Ohr Naava. It's not MO but she'll definitely make some friends there if she's open to it. It's an amazing, friendly, happening place, where everyone feels comfortable. Just walk in and smile, and people will say hi and ask where you're from. Worst that'll happen, she'll hear an entertaining shiur or do yoga or design jewelry for free. -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."

or it doesn't have to be her husband's shul... Its hard to make friends in shul but I guess its a good starting place. I think its hard to make friends as an adult if you move into a big city where people already know each other going back to school etc. -------------------- Abba: I'm going to be up on the roof so if you hear a thump...
Nechama: Should I come running? Abba: By that point its probably too late and you should call hatzalah |

Can they move out of Bklyn if it's such a shalom bayis issue?? A smaller, friendlier community would help a lot!

Sorry, but the last time I was at Ohr Naava..it was the world's biggest snob-fest (I was there more than once and even went to the first shabbaton [never again]). -------------------- "Life is a combination of magic and pasta." -Federico Fellini |
