Would you ever return a food item to a grocery store?
What's your cut-off point? A $100 peice of meat that's moldy when you take it out of its wrapping? A container of cream cheese that's spoiled?

yes, no cutoff point. You must have bought something from 7-mile.

My dog doesn't lick his own butt. He doesn't eat poop or step in it. I'll concede that he does smell other dogs' butts and he does lick "himself." I'd prefer it if he doesn't lick me right after that, so I employ a few minutes of buffer time between licking other things and me and I try to get him to drink some water too. - VLG

Sure, I do it all the time. Last week I returned 2 jars of gefilte fish that DH said he didn't like.

ETA: it's a painless procedure at the Jewel (big chain). The local mom and pop kosher stores always give me a problem.

How could you not notice it on a piece of meat? Isn't the wrapping see through?

Either way, I've returned things that were cheap when I was back at the grocery anyway. I once bought three containers of cottage cheese and they were all spoiled so I brought them back so they'd stop selling that shipment and I once brought back two frozen dinners when I found a pubic hair baked into one.

Flanken, when taken out of the plastic, were green on the underside.

I would always return spoiled goods. If I don't, the store assumes they're OK and continues to sell the same batch.

Yes I do it all the time, no cut-off point.

Actually certain cuts of meat if green it means they were frozen. While usually it's a bad sign, not always - but you have to know what you're doing, which I don't.

I think it depends on who made the item. If it's a name brand, I'm more likely to call the company because they'd send me a coupon for a free replacement.

If it's not a name brand, then it would depend on how much the item cost and how far away the store was. Like, if it's going to cost me a dollar's worth of gas to drive to the store, I'm not going to go there to return/exchange a one dollar container of cream cheese.

Conversely, if it were somewhere that I could walk to within a matter of minutes, then I'd probably go for even something as cheap as a dollar. But I don't think for less than that.

Someone once told me that, I have no idea if it's true or not, I just know that if I see green I don't eat meat. It was actually someone that works in industrial food and goes through routine food inspections, so I assume he has an inkling of what he's talking about.

Personally, if I see green, I through it away.

The bone can turn black if it was frozen. Not green!!

If it were more expensive. But if it were just a $2 item and would involve more of a hassle to go back (especially if it would involve travel - i.e. gas prices!), I wouldn't bother.

Exist's friend's song, to the tune of The Star Spangled Banner

Let's say you can see,
A hot and cold sink,
Where so proudly, we wash,
For netilas yadayim
Whose filtered waters and bright shine,
Through this mitzva'dig time,
O'er our hands, we watch,
Gallons of water streaming.
And the hot water from here, gets filled with cold water down there,
So don't turn on the hot water, or more will be boiled somewhere.
Oh say does that negel vasser towel yet dry,
Our cold and wet hands, and now we know the reason why!

Arguably, returning items could encourage the stores to improve the quality of their goods, which in turn could increase business for them. Being satisfied with mediocrity is not necessarily doing them a service.
