I don't believe in this trend of creating lavish meals in the 9 days because we only do dairy.
What do you do in the 9 days? Any ideas? -------------------- Proud member of the "I don't always wait until I finish reading the thread to respond" club. ~~~~~~~~~~ As for me, I would rather be able to love things I cannot have, than to have things I'm not able to love. .~Merrit Malloy |

This year's menu:
-penne w/ zucchini, tomato, basil & garlic & Bulgarian cheese -tuna casserole -orange soup (pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potato) & cheese muffin squares -baked potatoes (I'll probably do double-baked potatoes & add chopped broccoli to the filling) & sole -tuna patties -------------------- A Jew without good middos is simply incomplete...

It's not about creating lavish meals, it's about putting some extra thought and imagination into it so you don't end up with baked ziti every night.
I want to try some foods we don't usually eat and bought the ingredients today: falafal, sushi, a new type of soup (not sure what type yet), some sort of fish. Then I'm sure we'll have eggplant parmesean, baked ziti and lasagna. I think that should take us up till Shabbos and after the fast. The supermarket was very 9-daysish with a crowd at the fish counter and noone at the meat or take-out counter. -------------------- www.adiel.com Sukkos fun!

My mom makes delicious salmon patties (you coat them with spices and panko crumbs and serve with tarter sauce) for the nine days. Don't have the recipe but I know she uses mayo, eggs and canned salmon - not sure what else.

Our stomachs don't allow us to eat that much dairy. We're grilling fish tonite and having pareve burgers and fries tomorrow; I'm thinking pasta for Tues.

Let's say you can see, A hot and cold sink, Where so proudly, we wash, For netilas yadayim Whose filtered waters and bright shine, Through this mitzva'dig time, O'er our hands, we watch, Gallons of water streaming. And the hot water from here, gets filled with cold water down there, So don't turn on the hot water, or more will be boiled somewhere. Oh say does that negel vasser towel yet dry, Our cold and wet hands, and now we know the reason why! |

MH doesn't like pasta in any shape or form which is somewhat restricting. But I'd rather not eat it anyway for dietary reasons. So I will make simple meals of grilled salmon and other fish, steamed vegetables, baked potatoes, lots and lots of different salads, and soups. I might give in on one night and get MH a takeout pizza and fries. (Dunno what I'll have then though!)

I never eat pasta. It's too high in carbs. (duh) egg-zactly. Oh I forgot. I can make eggs one night. Scrambled eggs made with pan spray, on wholewheat toast. Fries for DH. -------------------- "Mommy, is this the house where we are allowed to swing on the chairs, or the house where we're not allowed to swing on the chairs?"

I'm feeling very limited this year...how many fish sticks can one kid eat???? He's 2, I doubt I can convince him to eat soy.

I highly recommend this delicious recipe from red lobster. Obviously you would not make the shrimp skewers but it's an awesome recipe for a sweet spicy salmon.

Tonight: Soba noodles with chili/bean sauce and marinated tofu chunks, miso soup with veggies, salad, fruit. We both don't like fish.

Lentils and rice. That and spinach pie are my favorite suppers. Yum to both. Lentils+rice are a complete protein (they have all the essential amino acids you need) so extremely good for you! -------------------- "Life is a combination of magic and pasta." -Federico Fellini |
