(Spoiler in post) Has anyone seen The Fountain? What was your take on it? I'm curious as to how other people interpreted (SPOILER) the 3 separate timelines, and if you think they (or some of them) were real or metaphorical. I found an interesting site which covers some of the thoughts people have had on the film.

I saw a while ago. I didn't think too much about the stories, which were basically nonsense. I thought the cinematography was beautiful and the acting was top notch, but otherwise it was blah.

It was so sad...
I liked the two timelines but the future/space one I totally didn't get at all. -------------------- Make aliyah, and live in the country where your forefathers walked.

It's a little too abstract, without setting the proper context for the viewer to be able to understand the abstractness. It's like listening to a song with obscure lyrics that obviously has meaning to the person who wrote it - but also only to him.
It would've been a nice movie to see while high though. I think. -------------------- |

I thought the cinematography was beautiful It's interesting, because the space scenes were not completely CGI; they were composed of macro-footage of bacteria. QUOTE Peter Parks is a specialist in macrophotography. Working out of a refashioned farm-house outside of London, Parks cooked up soups of bacteria and different fluids to depict the deep space effects in ‘The Fountain’. Taking a leaf out of the Stanley Kubrick book for convincing in-camera visual effects, Parks’ contribution is a tremendous achievement. Link I liked the two timelines but the future/space one I totally didn't get at all. I figured the tree was the one that grew out of Izzy's grave, but I'm not sure how that would work since he was also somehow using it to keep himself alive. The story in the past seemed like it was just the book he finished off, so I don't see how it would have been the Tree of Life. It's a little too abstract, without setting the proper context for the viewer to be able to understand the abstractness. It's like listening to a song with obscure lyrics that obviously has meaning to the person who wrote it - but also only to him. It would've been a nice movie to see while high though. I think. Agreed- with both statements. -------------------- "Discussion is the pickaxe which uncovers the Truth from the mountain of error under which it is buried."
