I got the most amazing, stunning potted orchid plant on my second day of work wub.gif

I've never had an orchid before, and it is exquisite, so I want it to last as long as possible. I want to keep it at work where unfortunately there is no natural light, but what can I do otherwise? How often to water? It's potted in mossy stuff.

Google it. And personal advice: if it does need sun, don't deprive it of sun. It will die.

Have no choice, unfortunately-- it was for sure expensive and from my supervisor's supervisor (though I'm sure really from petty cash...), so it must stay on display in the cube.

I dunno; I've gotten 2 potted orchids and both lasted only a few weeks. I hope yours fares better.

Batya- You beat me too it smile.gif I wanted to post last week.

First of all, DO NOT OVERWATER! The leaves will start to turn yellow near the base/root and naturally you'll think 'gee, this lil plant looks dry, lemme add more water'. Uh-uh. That means the roots are too oversaturated (I sadly learnt the hard way). They say to plant it in wood chips if you see that happening.
Water it once a week (I'm still working on the exact amount). Make sure to get the soil, not the leaves when watering.
Also, they do well in humidity and I read in two places that they need light, but not direct light.

Call your local nursery and see what their pointers are. Orchids are finicky.

I agree with bigtoe's water statement.
I bought 2 people orchids; one was dead very soon probably due to living in a overheated room, the other lasted at least 2 blooming cycles.

Considering that it had no natural light in my office, it did remarkably well: it bloomed gorgeously and lasted nearly 7 weeks, until the blossoms started falling off- there are still 2 left. When those fall off, I'll probably take it home and try to nurse it back to life-- I hope it's not truly dead and has a chance of blooming again.
