If we reinstituted the custom of women's dancing on Tu B'Av, would you participate? (Clearly if you're married you should imagine yourself as single.)

I wouldn't watch cause I don't see it as being helpful. How would it help me decide to marry her?

If you would not participate for reasons of law or modesty, either as a man or women, are you then more righteous than the daughters of Jerusalem, and the men who apparently found spouses in those vineyards?

well halacha says that this is what we should do, and it further says that this is what we should do on yom kippur as well. (I suppose its the origional source for women wearing white on YK)

so how can you be frum and refuse? its mind boggling for someone to claim that it was a frum thing not to.

The answer of course is that today we are on a lower level and therefore can not handle the taavos that they could.

Well if we are reinstituting old customs, why not reinstate polygamy too while we're at it???

clapping.gif No biggie. If we reinstate both we'll just have to invite more women and less men for the dancing.

Who says it would be optional? As I see it, shlichei beis din would come and collect all of the singles (having previously reviewed their shidduch resume, blood type, and shtar yochsin) and bring them to the appropriate vineyard, it wouldn't do to just assign them to a vineyard, because people might meet someone inappropriate along the way. A male shadchan would be appointed to each single man to hold his hand over the chosson's eyes so we could both fulfill the minhag to have the women dance while preserving Torah-true values. At the end of the day, anyone not paired off would be taken to gender-segregated lecture halls for a lecture on the importance of the Jewish family, the laws of gifts exchanged by chossonim and kallos, the similarity between wormy wood and older singles, and midrashim about the happy marriages of the Avos and their non-Avos.

Because the Tu B'Av dancing was never banned -- polygamy was.

IIRC, that's exactly the reason the custom was stopped...

There were other things that may have gone on that were also due to those taavos...
