Last night I made ratoutuille (sp?) from Spice/spirit last night, basically it's a bunch of veggies cut up with spices and cooked - dried (not in tomato sauce or anything).
Anyways, since that covers the veggie, what do I make for a protein to go along with the meal? What about a carb? -------------------- Many people wish they could change their life, when all they really need to do is change their attitude towards life. - Sharon

during the 9 days? I'm ashkenaz. Personally, I'd mix it with penne and a little olive oil (but I love pasta and veggies, so that's me). -------------------- |

I only have some raw lasagna noodles leftover. add cheese, and done Add cheese into the ratoutille when I re-heat it? What type of cheese? Melt it in? Is it you who doesn't eat fish? I don't particularly like fish, but I don't NOT eat it the way psychodad avoids it like the plague. I am the one who has no meals planned during 9 days with fish involved. I guess if need be, I can get some pasta - what about cooking up some rice for carbs? (I wonder if I have a pilaf box available, highly unlikely though) Also, how bad is it to make scrambled eggs/cheese with this for the protein? -------------------- Many people wish they could change their life, when all they really need to do is change their attitude towards life. - Sharon

I was going to suggest omelets (you could even potentially use it as a filling). It's hard to pair roasted veggies with a non-fish dairy/pareve main. Unless you wanna do the salads/dips/pitas/yogurt/cottage cheese thing. I think the ratatouille would be a good accompaniment to rice, or you could make a risotto, but you still won't have a "real" main. How about doing tuna/salmon patties, even if you weren't planning on fish mains? -------------------- |

I don't really care about a 'real' main as long as meal has protien, veggie, carb. Hmm..tuna patties - see, NOW you're talking..To me, that's not realy fish - fish is like salmon and fillets, not the ground up version. How would I make them and how long would they take? (IS there anyway to make them in a wrap and then we can have carb/protein together?) I only have about 30 minutes to make it once I get home and that's only IF the kids cooperate. Otherwise we'll starve and eat late, not a big deal. -------------------- Many people wish they could change their life, when all they really need to do is change their attitude towards life. - Sharon

as a filling for what? the omelettes QUOTE What is a salads/dipspitas/yogurt/cottage cheese thing? Just putting out some warm pitas with different dips and salads, and a few dairy items like yogurt or cottage cheese. QUOTE What is risotto? It's a creamy rice dish that's often used as a main when you add other ingredients to it (like mushroom or chicken, etc). QUOTE Hmm..tuna patties - see, NOW you're talking..To me, that's not realy fish - fish is like salmon and fillets, not the ground up version. How would I make them and how long would they take? You mix a few cans of tuna (I use like 3-4), drain them, and drop them in a mixing bowl. Finely chop an onion and sautee until clear, drain and add to mixture. Add dry ingredient (you can use breadcrumbs, crushed crackers, cooked rice, or mashed potatoes. I use breadcrumbs or crackers) and a beaten egg. You want a consistency that allows solid patties to be formed. If you used crackers, skip the salt. If you used breadcrumbs, add salt, pepper, and dill if you want. This is the stripped down version. I've also made it with diced red bell peppers, lemon juice, and a bit of mayo, with cayenne and thyme. It's a pretty versatile recipe and hard to mess up. QUOTE (IS there anyway to make them in a wrap and then we can have carb/protein together?) You could always make tuna wraps instead. Make tuna salad (or tuna/egg salad) and add lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, whatever. You can also make "tuna melt" wraps by heating the tortilla briefly in the micro with a slice or two of cheese, before adding tuna and condiments. -------------------- |

Can I just put in lettuce, egg salad and wrap up or do I need to add tomatoes/onions/olives/whatever for it to be worth it? -------------------- Many people wish they could change their life, when all they really need to do is change their attitude towards life. - Sharon
