I just learned these new phrases.

In Israel, Dati Leumi OTDs are called "datlash" (dati l'she'avar.) Chareidi OTDs are called "chozer b'she'ela" (the opposite of "chozer b'tshuva").

You don't have to have been chareidi to be a "chozer b'she'ela". I think that's a catch-all term for anyone who frum.

I think they're referred to as נושרים by heimishe people.

Perhaps not, but I think the point is that they invented this new term for DL OTDs.

"They" who?

What does noshrim mean?

How can you be outwardly frum and OTD at the same time?

You dress "frum". Your friends are also former frummies or frum lite. The girls that you mess around with are from frum/haredi families....

It's not really freing out, it is a whole "frum" underworld/subculture. They even have private bars/clubs/parties for such people that regular people aren't allowed in to.....

No. The samech stands for Satmer...

It's from the term for fruit that fall from a tree.

OTDs themselves use "Yotzeh/ah lisheilah". There's also the term datla"sh, but the two have different connotations. Yotzeh lisheilah has a connotation of either intellectual OTDs or anti-religious OTDs while datla"sh is more neutral/politically correct.

That's very interesting, but also kind of freaky.

I like "yotzah l'shaila". Maybe I'll start using it.

There's also charedim lesheavar who are still dati. Many of the people who are helped by Hillel are like that.

My goodness. This really brings the cliche of "two Jews, three shuls" to new heights.
