Within 2 days of being put in a vase, they were gone.

Anyone know [for sure] why? Was it bec. of the sap in the stems? flower food that was attached?

When I get hydrangeas, I usually dry them. Otherwise they die.

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want. ~ Margaret Young

I wanted them fresh for the shabbas table..can you blame me? smile.gif

How do you dry them? The 'regular' upside-down-in-a-dark-closet way? Do they turn brown quickly or do you spray them first?

I don't turn hydrangeas upside down as then it just droops. I do do that for roses etc... I dry them in the vase, minus the water. It's a bit of luck as to how they dry though. Sometimes they dry beautifully and you wouldn't know they're not fresh. The BEST way to dry them is to leave them in a vase, but stuck in that sponge with water thingee. Let the sponge dry on its own and don't rewater. I never spray any of my flowers.

Thanks!
In the green floral foam you mean? That's the only part with water or you leave some at the bottom of the vase too?

Yes, the green floral foam and only partially watered. But I would think in a tall vase it won't work because the moisture will turn to mold rather than dry. I'd use one of those flattish bowls or something to dry it. They really are beautiful when dried well. And keep their color.
