I would swing towards them not being anonymous. Opinions?

I voted for less anonymity. It's just plain confusing.

What would you have selected otherwise? I think they should be allowed to have a separate anonymous mod s/n - it seems like people here get very offended when a mod 'rebukes' them or deletes a post/signature/image/etc of theirs... if they were friendly with the mod in real life or on h.com under his/her other sn... things could get messy -------------------- QUOTE (melech @ Jul 29 2008 @ 10:04 AM) I bow before the master and originator |

You have a good point, even though I still don't like the idea of mods having another sn. Why do you need to know who they are? What would that change? Would you behave better or worse if you knew? I can only see negatives in not allowing mods to remain unknown. -------------------- "There's too much finger pointing backward to make you think they're going anywhere but backward" - Palin It's like classic h.com discussions: He who does what I don't do is an ignorant fanatic and he who doesn't do what I do is beneath my religious contempt. - meleh yes, I openly admit to being shallow - Shuli |

I would behave exactly the same. I don't like the idea of people having to go under another name to mod- it feels very covert. Why shouldn't people know who is modding their posts or doing whatever? I understand the point made about it possibly causing friction between certain types of members, but imo, the posters should understand that a mod has to do that as part of their job. (This is all assuming they are being fair and following the rules.) If someone is hurt by a mod deleting their post because it was inappropriate, they are being overly sensitive. (Unless said deletion was uncalled for.) If a mod is so worried about what other people are going to think of their decisions, they shouldn't be a mod. They should have the confidence to stand behind their decisions and support the reasoning for their actions. That's why not everyone can be a mod. I don't see any reason for making things even more secretive by giving mods anonymity. In fact, I would say that the anonymity would serve as more of a negative for the mod than anyone else, as it could give them the confidence to judge those they don't like more harshly, for instance, without being identified. -------------------- When a small man casts a large shadow, the sun is setting.

One of my problems with the elections was that mods tend to have (at least the newer ones) moderating SNs to protect their anonymity, for whatever it's worth. If the people chose a mod, they would know who the new one was...

I feel really strongly that mods should not be anonymous.
It's much nicer to be rebuked by Nechama, with whom I have a nice relationship, than some anonymous military presence. It makes me want to stay in line. It just seems to go against the spirit of the board to have these faceless police around. -------------------- Make aliyah, and live in the country where your forefathers walked.

I totally agree, but it doesn't matter because SJ is going to do what he wants regardless. I really don't 'get this' attitude. I'm not referring to you specifically, but the general H.com. It's SJ's site and he has a right to do as he pleases. I think if he'd announce a new mod one day, we'd all be whining and saying, hey, no fair, s/he's not a good mod and we have rights. But when he gives us some choice in the matter, all you do is complain and whine about the unfairness of how it's done and that he'll anyways do as he pleases. -------------------- Proud member of the "I don't always wait until I finish reading the thread to respond" club. ~~~~~~~~~~ As for me, I would rather be able to love things I cannot have, than to have things I'm not able to love. .~Merrit Malloy |
