Why doesnt the Frum population just send all the kids to public school for a week? Thats a few extra million kids in the already saturated school systems.

Also, the 5 percent of your will thing is a good idea, has it been a success at all?

(mod u can move this to the school forum, im sorry...)

I don't think that's a good idea, there are way too many problems with that. We need to think of some more ideas and resolutions.

I have 3 sisters in public school (they are not Jewish by the way). Under no circumstances should a frum family send their child to public school. Especially in this day and age where home-schooling via virtual/online schools is an option just about everywhere in the US.

I also have siblings in public school and I think it can be really exaggerated. Some of the bad influences in PS (gashmius, where I'm from) is just as bad in yeshiva.

Personally I think that the best argument in favor of yeshiva is that the kids just don't take Jewish studies seriously when it's a couple of hours after school. It needs to be integrated.

Fear of public school just doesn't work for me.

I don't think I understand. What would sending all those frum kids to public school achieve?

Show the yeshivas they don't have a monopoly?

Destroy the public school system?

Show the parents that they do want their kids in yeshivas afterall and it's worth any price?

the only thing i imagine it might accoplish is to show that people don't need the yeshiva system, so either the tuition goes down or else...

i didn't understand any other points in the OP besides the first sentence.

ETA: the second sentence - maybe that's for getting a tax break or some governmental subsidy?

If it were a logical option, I would home-school my kids. No yeshiva or PS stupidity to deal with.

It is. I know a few frum people that have done it.

Would you have to work full time if you didn't have to pay tuition???

Nope. A family means having other expenses, too.

Home schooling means social interaction close to 0. Do you want your child to grow up a recluse?

One of the children I know that was home-schooled, was eventually put into a yeshiva at high school age and did extremely well in the social aspect. It seems his parents had kept him highly involved in other social events, a lot within NCSY and he adapted well once put into a 'regular' school environment.

My homeschooled child is one of the most social beings I have ever encountered. His publically schooled mother, on the other hand, is a recluse.

Just goes to show you that everyone's different, chaimsmom.

Perhaps, if my kids were home schooled and i didn't work, we would hve less expenses. But that's not a way I choose to live - with one pair of sneakers for everyday and home in a robe all the time, making bread and jam all the time .....

I think it can work or not depending on many factors. For some families/kids it's great. For others it would be a nightmare.

Oh, and I don't homeschool and don't plan to but I still find that description highly offensive.
