is there a bracha that you are supposed to say upon seeing a midget, or is there no bracha because it is embarrassing for it?

There is a bracha, but they are human just like wise and beautiful people are human, and you also need to say a bracha on an exceptionally wise or beautiful person. If you see them as an object, why say a bracha? There are lots of small objects. -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."

We don't make brachos on objects? This bracha is for a small human, not object that looks like a human. -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."

This bracha is for a small human, not object that looks like a human. You asked "If you see them as an object, why say a bracha?" This would lead me to believe that you think one does not make brachos upon seeing objects (such as rainbows, the Mediterranean Sea, etc.) Also my understanding is that the bracha is NOT for just a "small human." Rather, it's said upon seeing a midget or a dwarf. |

You're right. I was just upset at the way the OP talked about midgets. I think the term is "little people." I agree with you. So has anyone here said any of these kinds of brachas (ugly person, beautiful person, wise person, friend you haven't seen in a while), etc.? I always want to say them because I think they're really cool brachas, but I never have. -------------------- Kabel et ha-emet mi-mi she-omro.

I always forget the other ones. -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."

Osie Maaseh Breishis (assuming you don't see one on a regular basis.) wrong, its mishana habriyos. you say the bracha any time you see someone who looks strange. if you've never seen a black man in your life, and you see a black man for the first time at thirty and are shocked by the apperance, you say "mishana habriyos" if you see a giant, and you've never seen someone that tall before and you're struck by it, you say likewise. same with a hunchback, and the same with extremely ugly animals. You would probably do likewise for a downs child (or a child with a severe physical deformity) if you've never seen one and you're old enough to be struck by it. I imagine if you saw a geraf (can't spell it) you would have to say the bracha, if you'd never seen one before. you say the bracha once for each and every type of disfigurement or creature. likewise for sh'kacha lo b'olamo, you say it for the most beautiful one you've seen (and I'm guessing it has to be in person), and when you see someone far more beautiful you say it again. but the appearance has to be strikingly so. Its a difficult bracha, most people probably only say it once in their lives if at all. I had the dubious fortune to say this bracha over a severe hunchback once a couple years ago. I felt very guilty for acknowedging his deformity. it made me very, very uncomfortable. -------------------- "well has beruria spoken"

I always want to say them because I think they're really cool brachas, but I never have. You know, I was in the zoo last week and saw the rhinoceros and the hippo and whatnot, and it completely slipped my mind to make the bracha. Then again it wasn't the first time I've seen one. But I probably should have said it with my kids, if I had remembered. |

ive never understood why dwarves (people with dwarfism) get offended when you call them midgets, if anything its a compliment, Midgets are normal people, perfectly proportioned who are shorter than 4'9 for one reason or another (usually pituatary, liver etc) whereas dwarves are not normally proportioned etc
ie alot of mexican/asian etc women are midgets in the true sense, as is gary coleman -------------------- נ נח נחמ נחמן מאומן
