I would like to make stir-fry for dinner. I defrosted the meat already. I have a bag of frozen veggies that cost $7.50 and since I'm cheap, I would rather not use it.

I also have zucchini, squash and onions. Can I just dice these up, saute, add a bit of spices (maybe some sweet&sour sauce, what do you say?) and then add meat to have a veggie stir fry for dinner for a bit less money?

Yes, you can use the zucchini, onion, and what kind of squash is it?

Yeah it sounds fine. Do you have carrots? Can of baby corn? Can of mushrooms? Those would all work in a stir fry as well.

What I do with zuchini and onions is saute the onions, then add cubed zuchini till soft, add some tomato paste and spices, and serve it with spagetti. Just in case you want a different idea.

I think butternut. I cooked three (just for a little bit so I could hatchet them open.) Two were about the same tannish color outside, orange inside, long and at end get wide. The third was green outside and I think its called acorn it's green, round and has accordian stuff. I cut open the long one and diced up half of it so later that will be one less step (if h.com would approve my meal)

I do have carrots, but they're raw - won't they not cook fast enough?
I do not think I have babycorn, but would have to check
I am pretty sure I used up can of last mushrooms when I cooked dinner for new mommies last week.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't really like spaghetti or tomato sauce-y foods. smile.gif I'm planning to have rice as the carb of the meal, IF I get some rice (I have less than half a cup left, woops!)

It will take a bit longer, but probably not any longer than it would take with the squash anyways. If you put liquids in and cover it, it shouldn't take too long. Just make sure to put the meat in only after the carrots are soft since the meat will probably cook much quicker.

It goes even better on rice. I use it for a side dish with the rice on shabbos sometimes.

I don't have much time once I get home before everyone is starving. How long will carrots take? Squash shouldn't take so long since it was partially cooked so that I could dice it up so already sort of soft.

What is? the spaghetti or the stirfry?

I don't think it would take more than 20 mins altogether but I generally don't time myself cooking so don't take my work for it and skip the carrots if the brood are hungry. (or boil them seperatly and add them after?)

If you dice up the carrots they willl cook faster. Not as fast as the zucchini, but if you keep the carrots in while the meat cooks they will be fine.

The zuchini and tomato sauce.

Maybe I'll start out that way, with boiling them separately and that way - if they cook fast enough I"ll throw them in. If not, I will make carrot kugel for shabbos.

Got it.

If the carrots are still a bit crunchy, that could be fine too. :)

Why the look?

No, it wasn't that good. Part of the problem was the zucchini was still a bit raw, meat also but less so. (the meat was also cheap meat so that may have been the problem.) And I cooked it for over half an hour.

That's pretty much what it costs here. I'm surprised it's so much in the states, though.

just a tip with carrots, put them in the microwave with an inch of water for 5 minutes when you first start sauteeing the onions and it softens them to the point where it cooks well in the stir fry
