(no, actualy for the first time in a while, I'm not feeling remotely suicidal at the moment, so don't worry.)
the bais yosef states that all suicides these days are to be regarded as shotos if someone knows this halacha, and commits suicide with this in mind, does he suddenly become a genuine suicide? -------------------- "well has beruria spoken"

Why would his status change? There's no such thing as shoteh bimeizid. -------------------- "Shake off all the fears and servile prejudices under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear." --Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1787

How about if you bang your head with a hammer repeatedly until you start feeling like a Republican? -------------------- "well has beruria spoken"

I knew a Talmud chochom who surely knew the sugyah well, since he made a couple of unsuccessful attempts, when he committed suicide he was buried like all other niftarim. So the answer is no. -------------------- "You see who you are, by seeing who you think other people are." BK |
