And I think that's why reciting tehillim has become so popular: It's easy to do, and can be done on the fly.

But I think it loses it's purpose if it's just repeated by rote - as is any type of study or prayer.

Baltimore recently started a "Tefila Initiative." The premise was that we all daven, but no meaning goes into our davening, and we're just saying it to say it and get it over with.

So one shul (which happens to be mine smile.gif ) started an initiative, using Praying with Fire, by Rabbi Heshy Kleinman to get people to understand the power of tefila and to help with our kavana levels. Sponsors in the community are absorbing most of the costs, and the books are going to everyone who is participating for just $5. It's in the lesson-a-day format, with most pages taking just 3 minutes to read.

I think every single shul in Baltimore is partcipating now. At the end, there is going to be a huge community-wide siyum, with Rabbi Kleinman, Rabbi Kaminetzky, and others speaking.

Very nice program, in my opinion.
