I recently made peanut butter balls and wanted to make a chocolate to dip them in. I melted squares of choc, mixed it with creamy peanut butter and added a drop of butter as per a recipe i followed. the recipe then said add milk or cream, so i did, the second i did the entire creamy chocolate became one thick lump. I mixed like nuts trying to get it creamy again but no go. I thought i can't use it so i set it aside. It had cooled a bit when i was ready to throw it out, right before i did i just touched the chocolate and it had a paste kind of consistency, almost like putty. I pinched off a piece and it was like putty/playdough and i thought, "hey why not" and pinched some of the choc putty around a PB ball and rolled it a bit in my palms and it rolled right around the entire ball covering it beautifully. Didn't stick to my hands at all and i had a perfectly covered ball with no drip or mess and easy to roll in crushed peanuts or cookie crumbs.
They came out great!!! So of course a few weeks later I tried it again, followed the same exact recipe, hoping for the same "mess up" to happen but this time when i added the milk it mixed right in and stayed a smooth creamy, LIQUID choc! Pefrect for dipping, but I'm so annoyed, i wanted the putty kind. So i tried googling , but you can't exactly google recipe for playdough or putty chocolate. Anyone know what this choc is? Ever seen it before? What its called? Does it have a name? Thanks. |

maybe it hardened while you let it sit out?
the recipe i use for chocolate clay is about 12 oz chocolate mixed with 1/3 cup light corn syrup. melt, spread on wax paper, let dry. then form into balls for storage. -------------------- Has the world started spinning in the other direction?

No it turned into that putty lump right away, when i added the milk, but just cooled down. This one never turned into that lump.
Could be that the heat was too high, so I rewarmed the second batch and tried to "burn" it but I just ended up with a grainy mixture but still liquidy. Oh well. I just ended up dipping them mess and all. Frozen they taste the same. the recipe i use for chocolate clay is about 12 oz chocolate mixed with 1/3 cup light corn syrup. melt, spread on wax paper, let dry. then form into balls for storage. What do you do with it? Its eaten as is or used in something? |

Use a double boiler next time to retain the 'puttiness'.

What do you do with it? Its eaten as is or used in something? i use it to make decorations for platters or cakes (roses, flowers, leaves, stems, etc). it is edible but usually people don't want to eat the decorations (although a 4yo once did) so remelt and use it in something else. -------------------- Has the world started spinning in the other direction?
