One day maybe someone can explain to me the reason for the vitriol towards Obama on h.com. Do others in your community feel similarly? I don't understand it.

I'd just like to know what his qualifications are to be president. I've asked people who support him to please share, but so far no responses have been forthcoming. |

He seems to be a nice person. But he doesn't seem to have the qualifications needed to be president. -------------------- "If they would allow one dead soul to visit an assembly of philosophers, that would be the end of all their teachings."

You ask a bad question you shouldn't expect an answer. What qualifications does a person need to be President? That's a good discussion, but not for a thread named "Obama's brother found living in a hut". But in this thread I'm asking about dozens of derogatory posts on these boards about Obama, many with racial undertones. That's what is odd to me, not that there are people who are not planning to vote for him for whatever normal reason. -------------------- Kabel et ha-emet mi-mi she-omro.

That's a good discussion, but not for a thread named "Obama's brother found living in a hut". Thanks for this, I agree with you 100%. There are plenty of real reasons not to vote for Obama, but all the catchphrase-sounding ones that are in mass circulation all sound (to me) like stealth excuses to avoid saying openly that his race is an issue.

I did not ask the question in this thread. I asked it at least twice in other threads discussing Obama. You like Obama? Great. Sell me on him. Tell me why I should support him and give him my vote. I think asking "What qualifications does he have to be President" is a bad question, because first you'd need to agree on what those qualifications are, and then see how he measures up. Otherwise the person answering you would be shooting at an ever-moving target. Thanks for this, I agree with you 100%. There are plenty of real reasons not to vote for Obama, but all the catchphrase-sounding ones that are in mass circulation all sound (to me) like stealth excuses to avoid saying openly that his race is an issue. Exactly. -------------------- Kabel et ha-emet mi-mi she-omro.

Note by the way the bias in the opening post: Nowhere in the article is his brother described as "ashamed of Barack". He is descirbed in the article only as embarrassed at his penury, but the opening poster is perhaps projecting.

He is descirbed in the article only as embarrassed at his penury, but the opening poster is perhaps projecting. I was going to make this same comment. The brother's comment seemed to be saying that he was ashamed of himself, not BHO. Moshi - I don't see where it how racism is involved here. If McCain had a brother living in a hut in some 3rd world country, there would be a similar story. -------------------- My dog doesn't lick his own butt. He doesn't eat poop or step in it. I'll concede that he does smell other dogs' butts and he does lick "himself." I'd prefer it if he doesn't lick me right after that, so I employ a few minutes of buffer time between licking other things and me and I try to get him to drink some water too. - VLG

Aishel, did you read the article? The brother is ashamed of himself, not of Barack.
QUOTE Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation.

Aishel, did you read the article? The brother is ashamed of himself, not of Barack. WHy should he be ashamed? He is living the ideal lifestyle. He is doing no damage to the environment or consuming more than his share of earth's resources. How many particles of CO2 does HE emit a year? |

I didn't say that he should feel ashamed, just stating what was said in the article.

How come people keep referring to Barack Hussein Obama, but not John Sidney McCain, Robert Laurence Barr, et. al.?
