The sugya of kavana begins with Rabbi Eliezer, who says, "Al L'vovecho-until here needs kavana" Rashi explains that "here" is the word L'vovecho.
Fast forward to a few lines later. The gemara cites a Beraisa of R' Zutra and R' Yoshiya, who also say "Al L'vovech-until here" etc. Rashi on R' Yoshiya, (but not on R' Zutra) says that "until here" means the end of the first perek. The Bach changes Rashi, (presumably to include R' Zutra), and say that in the entire Beraisa, "Until Here" is the first perek. (See Pnei Yehoshua for alternate pshat) My question is, if "until here" in the second Beraisa means the whole first perek, how come in the first Beraisa it means only till the word "L'vovecha"? ============= R' Yochanan says you need to stay in one place (rashi) for the first perek. The gemara says that this is because he says that you need Kavana for the whole first perek. We pasken that you only need Kavana for the first Posuk. Yat we also Pasken that you need to be in one place until the word L'vovecho. How can this be? -------------------- Very clever, these Jews.--- melech

QUOTE (farshideneh greenstein @ Mar 14 2005, 09:44 AM) R' Yochanan says you need to stay in one place (rashi) for the first perek. The gemara says that this is because he says that you need Kavana for the whole first perek. We pasken that you only need Kavana for the first Posuk. Yat we also Pasken that you need to be in one place until the word L'vovecho. How can this be? IIRC from shiur this morning, I think that was only according to the Rabbeinu Yonah. In actuallity, we pasken that only need to be in place for the first posuk like you said. -------------------- cash value: 2 cents
I'm not rude. You're just thin skinned. |
