It might make sense but ppl ordinarily can't just decide to take away a major minhag because of these reasonings. It makes sense to me ...whats the point of fasting if it's going to make your dan non-productive.Friday nt we had a 17 yr old guy who invited himself over. His parents went away. He is very yeshivish and goes to beis hatalmud in boropark. They don't learn any english. He told us s/t very shocking that I never heard. His rosh yeshiva and the Brisker rav in eretz yisroel hold yeshiva guys don't fast because talmid torah is deoraysa and fasting is deranbanan. This is a major chiddush to say one does not have to fast. My husband had real fun bashing him. I told my husband he cant bash the brisker rav who is so great even if the idea seems nuts. Anyone heard of this. I found it a fascination discussion. The guy said he's coming over on the fast to ask for a sprite. My husband said he'll kick him out. They were play fighting. Discuss!

I didn't know this mishugas until now. You never know-alu vealu divrei chayim. We'll find out when mashiach comes. It is a known mishugas of the briskers. The real litvaks have traditions that don't need to pander to modern yeshivishe sensibilities.

But his rosh yeshiva doesn't.My brother went to Brisk in Eretz Yisrael, and he most certainly fasts. When he's not up to learning, he says tehillim.
