How To Manipulate Cingular Rep Got a big bill

What do I tell the rep in order to convince them to take the extra charges off? I don't like doing this, but I don't want to pay it either.
I'm not bound by a contract for a couple of years now, but I have an old TDMA plan for $40/1000 min.
I don't agree! I'm just lazy to type.

Good luck!
I don't have a contract. I just want to continue my month-to-month, but without paying for the extra minutes this time.

Tell them your parents will kill you or worse stop paying for your cell phone bill if they found out you went over by so much. Seriously that last one should do the trick. (if not you probably will have to pay it)

you actually went 160 minutes over your plan? if so, what's your objection to paying for it?

You should be ashamed to post such words on a Jewish forum. I suggest you read the Ha'amek Davar's introduction to Sefer Bereishis.

If you have been a customer in good standing, and you accidentally go over your minutes Cingular will offer you a one-time goodwill credit of 50% of the overage.
For those of you yelling ethics, let's just remember that we're not exactly dealing with a company that operates in an ethical manner, so I wouldn't rush to judge.

And to you I say, read the Ha'amek Davar's introduction to Sefer Bereishis, because he deals with your point directly.

What should I be ashamed of? I'm not looking to unlawfully obtain others' property or something. I know that the agents are authorized to reduce the bill. I've heard that they've done this before for people, as a good will gesture for long-time customers in good standing.

I'm not the type to plead with someone. I was hoping for an easy way out. For example, if they have a rule to forgive it the 1st time, then I'd tell them that I didn't realize I had used up the minutes, and maybe they can take it off.. or something like that...

No, I have an old ATT plan with no rollover minutes. But I pay $40 for 1000 min, and have better reception than the new GSM service.

Okay well it depends how you go about it. If you are honest and up-front with them and just want to try to get a break, fine. But if you mislead them or make up claims to get out of it, that's crossing a clear ethical line. Your selection of the word "manipulate" implied the former.
If it makes you feel any better, I went about 100 minutes over my quota this last billing cycle with my Verizon plan. Going to cost me a good $45 or so.

You erred and went over your minutes, thus you should simply pay the chaarges which you incurred, instead of attempting to weasel out of them.
