I would like to live in the North

I thought you already did.

Isn't it 12 degrees in Chicago now? (It's 64 in New York.)

LOL. Very funny.
It is super cold here, rained last night, and everyone's car doors were frozen shut this morning.
Good times!

Just be aware that 100K NIS is apprx $25K USD (on a good day)....

Just be aware with $25K you could buy an 8 bedroom fully detached house with 10 acres of farm land in the Golan. (Okay maybe not 10 but you could get a VERY nice dwelling.)

Also, I believe this is on top of the standard grant and on top of the sal klita. And of course the NBN social services support.

Where I really want to live is this religious kibbutz/organic farm.

That counts as the North, right?

Afraid not. Not north enough.

Heck, it's 25 with a wind chill of 11 in Beaverton, Oregon. plus we just had such a snow storm (for here) that you're not allowed on the highways without chains! [All of this, as "bad" as it is, is very unusual for this area.]

Hi! Welcome!

Mazal Tov on your Aliyah plans. I'm not so sure that Tzfat is considered north enough for this program.

By the way, the official website for this with more info is here: http://www.nbn.org.il/gonorth/

Well, i've looked into it on the website a few times - karmiel and afula are on the list.....we are working with ppl at NBN i just can't get the info about Tzfat.
has anyone been to karmiel or afula? i don't know anyone there or anything....
from what i can gather those are both cities...right? some of the places on the nbn list are tiny. additionally, we are sephardi and need somewhere where there are bet knessiot for us. additionally we have older children as well as younger so we want to be in a place that has a girls' high school etc....therefore karmiel or afula should theoretically meet our needs. i really like tzfat...dh loves the place...
if we don't do the go north program we have pretty much decided in Kochav Yaakov. Kochav yaakov looks AWSOME! but, if they ARE offering special hebrew tutoring for the kids than that aspect of the go north program REALLY appeals
Dh should be going over there next month to to make our plans and get business contacts etc.

Also, with NBN there is a min # of years you need to live there. If you move back, you pay them back every cent (I believe).

How long do you have to live in the north? Can you move south after a certain amount of time?

To stay in Israel? No, not at all. Once we go, we're not coming back. It's just a lot of fun to think and dream about and not that fun to actually sell your stuff, pack a lift, say goodbye to family & friends, get your visa application notarized, blah blah...blah.

anticipation and planning is always the most fun part of an experience....but you are going to be living your dream. Its really wonderful.
God, grant us the...
Serenity to accept things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference
Patience for the things that take time
Appreciation for all that we have, and
Tolerance for those with different struggles
Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways, the
Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each other and the
Strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless.

Yeah we're pretty excited about moving there soon too. The planning, selling stuff etc is tricky though...
