-Mushroom cream sauce- (pareve)

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

1 package of mushrooms
approx 1/4 c. flour
approx 1/4 c. oil
non dairy creamer
diced medium onion or shallot
pareve chicken soup mix
salt, pepper

Directions:

In a medium sized pot heat several table spoons of olive oil (or other oil) on a low flame, add equal amounts of flour and whisk together. Add the diced onion and continue to mix. Cover pot and let the onion sweat for 5 minutes - on a low flame.

Add the mushrooms, and stir. Add the non-dairy creamer - around 2 cups - but not sure, so add slowly. Add around a spoonful of chicken soup mix. Keep the pot covered on a low flame and stir every now and then to keep from burning. The sauce will thicken. Once the mushrooms are tender, serve.

SPARSLIC from cookbook of Chabad house on campus In Pittsburgh

(This recipe only works with fresh garlic.)

Great dip for bread or crackers and you can use the leftovers for garlic bread. You can also use it as a spice on salad, potatoes, on fish, etc.

[Comments:] Use with bourekas. You could also make a broccoli kugel (the one from Spice & Spirit) in those puff dough shells, bake it, and serve it with mushroom sauce. Haven't tried it myself, but my SIL used to make that- very yummy.

It really is. I don't see why not, though I've never used that before. You'd still have to cook it, right?

I don't think so. When I make squash kugel, I don't cook it first if I use frozen.
