gribb'n is chicken skin fried (usually with onions) to release the fat - schmaltz. i love it, my wife, having grown up with an american mother, thus only being introduced to it after marriage, thinks its disgusting. your thoughts?
"Spiritual wants and instincts are as various in the human family as are physical appetites, complexions, and features, and a man is only at his best, morally, when he is equipped with the religious garment whose color and shape and size most nicely accommodate themselves to the spiritual complexion, angularities, and stature of the individual who wears it."

"The despotism of heaven is the one absolutely perfect government. An earthly despotism would be the absolutely perfect earthly government, if the conditions were the same; namely, the despot the perfectest individual of the human race, and his lease of life perpetual. But as a perishable perfect man must die, and leave his despotism in the hands of an imperfect successor, an earthly despotism is not merely a bad form of government, it is the worst form that is possible."

I grew up pretty American, and that sounds pretty darn tasty. I might have eaten it, but I'm not sure.

Ah. Sounds like something eastern europeans would love. I have no idea what they ate in Palestine, from the stories it sounds like not much. My wife's family loves mermite. I love all things caviar. It's amazing how many things there are that you love and other people find disgusting.

ftr, the schmaltz is the real tachlis - especially back then when reliably kosher oil/shortening was hard to come by (and doubly so for pesach). the gribb'n is just a by-product.

Marmite is a spread that's meant to have miracle ingredients that cure all sickness. It's consumed, with pride, throughout the British Commonwealth.

If you think greebin is disgusting how about sweet breads (pancreas), brains, cows hearts, chicken and calves feet and tongue (ick!) Sometimes opening up the fridge in my house made me sick! Greebin didn't gross me out (but the cholosterol content does!)

Don't tons of Americans regularly consume porn rinds (fried crisp pig skin)?

Available for free on the world wide web.

I never ate those other things, but I did like beef tongue and chicken liver (whole).

not in my neighborhood

i ate sweetbreads/brains once, and they were quite good, although i didnt care for the consistency/texture. (similar to marrow - but if i eat it on bread or with mashed potatoes - yum!). i love tongue, if its prepared properly. and my mother used to put 'feeselach' in the soup, but as a kid i never touched 'em, and later she stopped doing it.

cholesterol content in gribb'n? i thought most of the unhealthy stuff was in the schmaltz, which has already been rendered out?
