Actually, I don't see Psychiatry as being any worse than other branches of medicine in this respect. There are certain things they know how to cure, and certain things they know how to treat and there are some honest people who are in it to help people. The bulk of it, though, is quacks selling expensive pseudo-cures to desperate people (both Psychiatry in particular, or Medicine in general or Psychology for that).

But if you could really help people then why not do so?

Even the people who honestly help their clients can't proactively go against the "establishment", at least not without consequences. If a friend or someone I know asks to get therapy, I'll give it to them for free.

But I agree with you, Shrinks just throw SSRI's at you in varying dosages until they "work" or you G-d forbid can't take them anymore... Then when you have side effects, they give you OTHER drugs to combat the side effects. Then more drugs to counter THOSE side effects....

Well, Ketamine is practically always of medical grade, diverted from veterinarian use or purchased in Mexico. So purity and dosages are pretty safe, and as far as the thing itself - there have been people taking it relatively often "recreationally" for several decades now; most SSRIs aren't around for that long and nobody is sure about their effects over some 20-30 years of continuous abuse.

I also have chronic depression and have tried various prescription substances, but they did not work well. So, I personally have found a combination of non-prescription substances that have improved my condition, such as high dose B vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids (DHA/EPA), l-theanine, hypericin, and phosphatidylserine. A little DHEA periodically also helps me. Make sure to also get at least 500 mgs of magnesium a day. It's important to make sure you are intaking enough nutrients to produce adequate amounts of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.
