I can understand the Austrians, given their Nazi proclivities, but the Swedes? It must be that the tournament, while held in Sweden, was being run by citizens from some other place.
Some say the Sweds were worse that the Austrians who some say are worse than the Nazis.
The Sweds fall in to the category of "polite anti-samiten." They won't let you stay in their hotels but will profusely apologies that there are no available rooms (etc.)

I didn't realize that. I thought they would be similar to the Danes, who seem to like Jews.

With Bangladesh still banning their citizens from Israel, Venezuela desecrating shuls, and the UAE allegedly arresting Jewish travelers who are dumb enough to Fly Emirates™, I think the Swedes are much closer to being your friends than your enemies.
About the incident with Austria, it seems to be more along the lines of stupidity than an intentional snub, as anyone who can see through Arootz 7's alarmist spin can understand:

I have cousins who have been to Dubai, even quite recently, and they never faced any problems. They are Chasidish, look Chasidish, have Israeli stamps in their American passports, and have quite stereotypical Jewish last names.

I've heard rumors that if you fly between Asia and Europe and change planes in a Gulf country, if you have an Israeli passport, or maybe even an Israeli stamp in you passport, or maybe even a Jewish-sounding name you could be arrested and held without charges. I don't know how true these allegations are, but they most probably have some truth to them.
we travelled through dubai. (even got a starbucks at the airport-although i was nervous about that)
eta: i used my swiss passport which does not get stamped.

So maybe the people who told me about having trouble did something else to get in trouble and then turned around and blamed the whole thing on anti-semitism (not unheard of) or maybe it was a one-time thing, or maybe it was a problem that existed and it has been fixed, or maybe they just made it up (not unheard of either). Which is why I said "allegedly" from the start (I knew my source was far from reliable).

Who cares about Austria anyway? What did they give the world? Uggs, Kangaroo burgers and Crocodile Dundee? They don't even know when shabbos is...
