Israel is in a constant state of war. things r not like thousands of years ago where u had set borders that protected u from outsiders, and had literally scheduled battles. there always have to be people in Israel who do things on shabbos for security's sake.

I once read an article in a journal that calculated that the first churban was on shabbos and the guy hypothesised that it was because the jews wouldn't fight back that days. Why knows. I never understood why you wouldn't be able to fight on Shabbos since its pikuach nefesh.
