A female Transportation Security Administration officer at Sacramento International Airport told her, "We can't tell if there's something under your skirt." She was then frisked in a way she said felt more intrusive than a physical exam.

"I felt not only like a criminal, I felt absolutely violated," said Gigliotti.

Gigliotti is among the travelers feeling mortified or even outraged by the more thorough security pat-downs the TSA began using this month as the holiday travel season begins.

Travel experts say the new scrutiny underscores the need for better airport fashion choices that can help people breeze through screenings with their dignity intact.

Clothes loaded with metal studs are suddenly a no-no, as are bras with underwires. Slacks instead of skirts are preferred. Any baggy clothing can require extra inspection.

So, skirts and Melech's sons sweatpants seem to be out.

So even if you can get a heter to wear baggy pants instead of your skirt because of the pat-downs, you would then need to get a heter to wear skin-tight pants.

Why is it ok, for TSA agents to do gynecological exams? Me thinks there will be sexual assault complaints in the very near future....

Ask them to throw in a pap smear, while they're down there. Save you a trip to the doctor once a year.

Very interesting article - aparently airports are not required to use TSA. They can use a private firm if they want to.

http://today.msnbc.m...ns/travel-news/

Yea but the paper today said the private firms follow the same procedures.

Best comment:

Anyone who thinks the scanners are actually effective is just foolish. There are much better was of detecting explosives. That's why, eventhough most packages are x-rayed, hazards are always detected. You know what does detect the hazards? Dogs. I do not know why the TSA does not just put a couple explosive sniffing dogs at each gate. Personally I would much rather a dog sniff my crotch than a TSA agent.

i certainly agree. its about time the TSA started using common-sense to screen passengers - psychological profiling, for example, like what they do at Ben Gurion.

Ladies, how would you handle the TSA "checking" your skirts? (besides asking dh to deck aforementioned TSA person)

I haven't been following this - can I opt out of a search and go with the x rays?

I think a better subtitle would be breathing = TSA pat down.
For me, there is no way I am going in a back scatter machine. Not a chance. And I don't particularly care if a TSA agent feels me up. But I will be watching like a hawk if they touch my children, as there is no way in hell I am letting them go through the machines either. It's such utter bs. I hope by the next time we have to fly out of the US this has already stopped after being exposed for the fraud that it is.

I think the question is if one can opt out of the xrays and go for the search.

Right, I knew this. I wonder if I can do the reverse.

I apologize if this is out of line, but from what I've read of it, cancer survivors are advised not to go through the machines.

FrumToronto says you should opt for the pat down:

http://www.frumtoron...D=3049#Frum3049

is that a joke?! they'd rather women be groped up their skirts than have men see their outline?

If you get selected for the x-ray you can opt out and go for the pat down. Once you opt out of the x-ray you can not change your mind and ask for the x-ray again instead of the pat down. You must either get the pat down or leave the airport and be fined up to $10,000.
