Please settle a dispute between me and sra. moe.

Are there male yoga-goers, in general?

Are you a yoga-goer, and male?

Do you know of any male yogurts?

(we are referring to heterosexual males)

When I get my gym membership, I'll start taking classes too.

Moe, never go to h.com to settle marriage disputes. Folks here are generally odd and defying-the-norms.

Ask on FB instead. :)

(I personally only know women who go to Yoga)
God, grant us the...
Serenity to accept things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference
Patience for the things that take time
Appreciation for all that we have, and
Tolerance for those with different struggles
Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways, the
Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each other and the
Strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless.

In my experience most Caucasian yoga practitioners are gay or practice an eastern religion.

I know a few men who are yoga practitioners, including one who has been at it for over 25 years.

All are Western and hetero (if their family lives are any indication).

Whats the dispute?

something like this:
Act I
ms: I'm thinking of taking yoga.
sm: Not with women.
ms: of course not!
sm: you're sitting in a yoga-ish position now, why do you need classes for?
ms: Idk, it's a routine, and maybe I'll meet friends and stuff.
~
Act II
sm: Come on, do any men really take yoga?
ms: this is 2011, baby, men are doing all sorts of things.
sm: gay men, maybe
ms: whaaaaa?! you're crazy!
~

and so, we turn to you, hashkafa.com, do straight men do yoga? (and if not, what's wrong with them?)

My male yoga acquaintances give several reasons for their interest, and all but one are health-related.

Several say that it is good for their backs, and some say that it helps their cardiovascular problems.

the latter could be that the yoga itself is good for them, or it could mean that getting away from it all several times a week is good for them. either way, they say that it has helped them, and these are not medically naive people.

I don't really see the down side to yoga (although I don't do it myself).

I know straight guys who do yoga, but when I see a guy in my yoga classes, its often my first assumption that they are gay..

Is there anyone who knows a heterosexual male that does pilates?

Some top martial arts training places, which generally cater to super-macho heterosexual men, offer (restorative) yoga to the manly-man fighters.

In my experience, it's mostly women who take classes; but I DO see men occasionally. And yoga and pilates are no exception - mostly women but some men too.
