A friend of mine wants to get an iTouch, and use it occasionally in Israel. Apparently wifi isn't that common in Israel? Also, she was told that 3G wont' work in Israel if she's not FROM israel. She is wondering whether to get the 3G option or the wifi.

I have no clue about any of this, any advice?

i'm pretty sure central jerusalem has free wifi hotspots all over

is it only 3g OR wifi? Why can't it have both? Apple are even bigger idiots that i thought.

I like the idea of wifi only devices. I don't need/want everything to have a persistent connection.

It doesn't need to connect if you don't want it to.

There are lots of wifi hotspots in Jerusalem. She's right that 3G won't work if she's not from Israel. So get the wifi option with the 3G for home use.

There IS a lot of wifi in Israel. And 3G MAY work but cost a FORTUNE unless they get an Israeli SIM which is not likely cost effective for a short time...

I liked that about my iPod touch.

do NOT connect to 3G here if you don't have a sim card from here...it's an absolute fortune. Nowadays you can pick up wifi pretty much anywhere...including the bus stop in geula...

Now there's a business opportunity for you, KR. Print up nice stickers with the symbols of the Eida hareidit giving a hechsher to the device, and sell them for a few shekels each.
