Someone mentioned to me that this is against the law. That unless there is postage on an envelope or item, its not allowed to be placed there.

never heard of it but at least where i live it can't be illegal otherwise why would i be getting so many fliers delivered? Does your mailman never deliver unstamped fliers?

The rule is for a designated letterbox. Door slots do not count as a letterbox, nor do non-lockable troughs used by apartment complexes. But if someone has a letterbox on the outside of their home or at the curb, you can get in trouble for putting something in there.

Would make a great comedy. Just imagine law enforcement gets tipped of about the ravs mailbox and inspects it to find it full of dirty underpants. I can't imagine trying to convince anyone that they are meant to be put there.Haha, so we should start putting stamps on bedikah cloth shailos?

Thanks. I was really floored when my friend mentioned this. I'm assuming its very poorly enforced. Have you ever heard of this being a problem in real life?

I'm wondering if you aren't allowed to place things into someone else's mail box, how does that work if you are collecting their mail while they are away on a business trip or vacation?

The whole this is very odd and I doubt its really enforced. We recently dropped hundreds of books in people's mailboxes despite the warning and so far no problems...
