#371745 Did Seminary Change Your Life-path?

Posted by comeon on 01 December 2005 - 01:37 PM in School & Work

i was change in a few ways
1)every additional year that i've lived with new roommates, i've become increasingly chilled out and learned to live with all types of things and see how people are so different in their little day-to-day lives... very much so in seminary because it is the first time a lot of the girls are living away from home, and the dorm is hefker, and very immature
2)i have a couple of role models from israel (and while i may not be like them, esther had to try to be like sara eimeinu in order to be the best esther)
3) increased LOVE of torah! of people who follow the torah as the FOCUS of their life!
4)increased bitachon (for sure!) and awareness that Hashem is with you and will make things work out
5)i know where to buy the best rugalech (marzipan!)
6)it made me more refined
7)i learn a lot more now, post-seminary, on my own (even from a hebrew sefer but with a chavrusah)
8)I am a more torah filled person, and so I am more confident to give over torah to others, but in general there is a pride in knowing that b"H i have learned so much in my Jewish schooling (and of course and intense amount in Israel)
9)love of the land

#339143 Can I Daven For A Non-jew?

Posted by comeon on 16 October 2005 - 09:52 PM in Jewish Fundamentals

My camper at a kiruv camp this past summer asked me this same question, what should she do, she wants to pray for her grandmother and her aunt's dog (not kidding)! Anyhow I told her she can daven even for a non Jew--- and gave her a kapital tehillim to say a)so now she knows a kapital tehilim B) bc. im''h in the future if she feels like she has the same situation and she wants to pray on someone's behalf (someone Jewish) she'll have something and then this Jewish person will have the zechus of tehillim said by a not frum child!

#339122 Customs Broker

Posted by comeon on 16 October 2005 - 09:27 PM in Jobs

Hi everyone,

I'v decided on career change and I'm currently looking for a position in the customs broker industry. I feel this would be an outstanding opportunity for me considering my understanding of world affairs, my travels to foreign lands, my great business acumen and interpersonal skills, and last but not least my attention to detail.

I currently work as a desk based sales rep selling product to many of the largest wholesalers and distributors in the country and have, against all odds, successfully raised sales in a precipitously declining industry.

I hold a Masters of Business Administratin with a focus on International Business from the University of Baltimore and a Bachelor of Arts - Talmudic Law from the Ner Israel Rabbinical College. I also completed a joint summer program with the University of Peru at Lima.

I am fluent in English, Yiddish and Hebrew.

#328137 Seminary In Israel

Posted by comeon on 28 September 2005 - 10:26 AM in School & Work

Michlala is all around an awesome awesome school, they also have great teachers (as mentioned above, the girls love Rabbi Hartman), the campus is nice, the food is good but it isn't "Bais Yaakov type" so if you think anyone who doesn't wear socks is a shiksa, it ain't the place for you!

#327068 Seminary In Israel

Posted by comeon on 27 September 2005 - 01:28 PM in School & Work

Is it currently open this year or is it opening for the coming year?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It is currently open this year, its first year.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I haven't got the hock about how its going yet this year, but the good news about it is that it won't fold, Rabbi Kurland's schools are well established and have good teachers. Rabbi Margolin was very excited about it because he says its everything Darchei Binah girls have plus better but I think the whole idea is weird: Many of the Darchei Binah teachers specificly like teaching there because its strong frum school but not Bais Yaakov (I mean I think its a little Bais Yaacovy but whatever) so they could say what they wanted and the girls not only think, but ask good questions.

#311376 Donating Hair

Posted by comeon on 11 September 2005 - 10:33 PM in Help!

Zichron Menachem in Bayit Vigan, Jerusalem. I went there right before I left Israel and they were really appreciative. There is an American Branch that you can probally send hair to. It says it needs to be 12.5 inches but I gave 11 and it was totally fine.

from their internet site:
When a child starts balding...

One of the most serious emotional hardships that children with cancer have to deal with comes when their hair falls out as a result of chemotherapy. At this point, the children begin to look very different from what they were used to and some respond very badly. In some cases, it is the “straw that breaks the camel’s back.” The children are ashamed to spend time with their friends. “The looks and whispers behind our backs are the worst of all,” say the children candidly.

To minimize the difficulties, Zichron Menachem arranges a temporary replacement for the children and a staff of trained professionals comes to fit a wig for each boy or girl that wants one.

We gratefully accept long hair donations that meet the following criteria:

• Hair should be braided, and tied with a rubber band at both ends before cutting.

• Hair needs to be a minimum of 30cm or 12.5 inches when braided.

Please mail braids to:
